It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Charles “Chuck” Robert Carlberg Jr. at his home on July 3, 2025, of natural causes – after a great day of fishing with a very good friend.
Chuck was born on November 26, 1948, in Cloquet, Minnesota to Charles “Bob” and Rose Carlberg. He was the second of four children. He graduated from Denfeld High School in 1966 and continued his education at the University of Minnesota Duluth. He proudly served in the U.S. Army, where he forged lifelong friendships and exemplified honor and dedication.
From a young age, Chuck was passionate about skiing, beginning at Mont du Lac. His skiing accomplishments included being named to the US Junior National Ski Team, winning the Midwest College Championship, winning the US Military Alpine Championship, and winning the NASTAR National Championship – qualifying for it numerous times. To this day, you would be hard pressed to find a better 76-year-old skier or someone who enjoyed skiing more than Chuck!
Chuck’s professional life reflected his love for skiing and community. He co-owned Sport Roberto Ski Shop and Mont du Lac Ski Area and played a key role in creating the NorthShore Inline Marathon.
After retiring, Chuck spent his summers fishing, autumns pheasant hunting, and winters skiing. You could also find him meeting with friends to chat – he had too many to even count.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Rose Carlberg, and his sister, Patty Beardsley. He is survived by his sister, Barbara (David) Dezell; brother-in-law, Mark Beardsley; brother, Ron (Patti) Carlberg; former spouse, Linda Carlberg; daughter, Cami Carlberg; son, Matthew (Dawna) Carlberg; daughter, Kristin (Dan) Hinrichs; grandsons, Brian (Stephanie), Alex (Meghan), William, and Otto; great-grandchildren, Madison and Everett; and five nieces.
Chuck’s legacy lives on in the stories he loved to tell, the laughter he inspired, and the pictures he shared. He was happiest when surrounded by friends and family. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
