Clair “Gene” Putney Jr.
May 11, 1960 – May 13, 2025
Clair “Gene” Putney Jr., 65, passed away on May 13, 2025, just days after celebrating his
birthday. He was born on May 11, 1960, in Charles City, Iowa, to Gene Sr. and Marilyn Putney.
Gene grew up surrounded by love, laughter, and adventure. His childhood was full of
memorable moments shared with his siblings and cousins, creating a strong foundation of
family, friendship, and fun that would stay with him throughout his life.
After graduating from Barnum High School, Gene went on to work in a variety of jobs, focusing
mainly on construction and truck driving—fields where his dedication and strong work ethic truly
shone. He took pride in a job well done and was known for his reliability and hands-on skills.
On April 18th 1998, Gene married the love of his life, Delaine. Together they blended their
families into one, combining Gene’s only child, Jimmie, with Delaine’s three children—Josh, Jill,
and Cory. Gene embraced his role as a father/stepfather with open arms and a full heart,
building a home filled with love, laughter, and strong family bonds. The loving family grew with
the addition of 11 grandchildren- Jayden, Joel, Carter, Carson, Logan, Liam, Carma, Damon,
Desmond, Cartel, Delilah. Each one brought him pride and happiness, and he cherished every
moment spent with them.
Gene enjoyed the simple pleasures of life—fishing on a quiet lake, cheering on the Minnesota
Vikings, and spending quality time with loved ones. He loved playing cards with friends and
family, organizing fish fries, and sharing laughs over board games with his grandchildren.
Bonfires were a favorite tradition. He also found great joy in exploring the outdoors on ATV
rides, always ready for a new trail or an impromptu adventure.
Gene will be remembered not just for his work, but for his big heart, sharp wit, and the joy he
brought to those lucky enough to know him. He was a beloved husband, father, son, brother,
uncle, cousin, and friend who made a lasting impact on many lives.
He is survived by his wife Delaine, his children Jimmie Putney, Josh Potter, Jill (Ben) Dahl, and
Cory (Kelly) Potter, his sister, Marilyn (Jerome) Youngberg, many nieces, nephews, cousins,
inlaws, outlaws, grandchildren and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Gene Sr.
and Marilyn Putney, his sister, Raynegail Warren, and brother, Jay Putney.
