John Patrick Snyder otherwise known as JP, Johnbob, and Uncle Bob passed unexpectedly on December 6th, 2024. Born on March 7th, 1978 to Phyllis Snyder, John was a loving father, son, and grandfather who showed great devotion to his family.
Graduating from Hermantown High School in 1996, John went on to earn a degree in Information Technology from Duluth Business University. During his career, he worked for the Duluth News Tribune, as a manager for Kwik Trip, and for Dey Distribution. John was also a member of the Civil Air Patrol, holding the rank of Captain and the position of Cadet Commander in the Duluth Composite Squadron. In addition to being so hard-working, John still made time to help others as a volunteer firefighter for Colvin Township and also volunteered with Grandma’s Marathon in Duluth.
In addition to his professional pursuits, John was a man of many interests and passions. Always trying new hobbies and starting grand projects, some of his favorite activities were fishing, playing online games with his daughters and friends, and being the best Dungeons and Dragons DM around. At parties, John could often be found manning the grill or the smoker. And if you needed anything fixed around the house, especially the computer, John would always help (provided you tried turning it off and on again first!)
The positive impact John had on the lives of his family and friends lives on in stories and memories of his kindness and compassion, enthusiastic excitement, and pranskter spirit. For example, his daughters grew up thinking that their dad had lost part of his middle finger from every strange source imaginable, from a fan blade to a giant mutant hamster. Whatever the story was that week, his cautionary tales were meant both to entertain and keep them out of danger. Another time, John got his mother pulled over due to a realistic Halloween prop arm he’d left hanging outside of her trunk. And when it came to being a grandpa, he loved tapping into his fun and goofy side to get a laugh from the little ones.
John is survived by his mother Phyllis Snyder, his 3 daughters Cheyenne McAllister (Darin), Christina Ulfsson (Joseph and Claire), and Cassidy Snyder, and his grandchild Jacklyn. His family remembers him as a devoted father and grandfather who always supported his kids.
Per John’s wishes, he was cremated and no funeral service will be held. A celebration of his life will be held for family and close friends at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in his name go to the Colvin Township Fire Department or to child advocacy groups.
