Shirley Jean Erickson

Shirley Jean Erickson, 81, of Esko, passed away at home on January 25, 2017, with her loving family by her side. She was born April 5, 1935, to Carl and Ruth (Sandberg) Stenberg in Duluth.
Shirley graduated from Duluth Central High School in 1953. She married Dale Erickson on May 5, 1956, and they raised two daughters in Duluth. She was a homemaker until her children were older, at which time she began her career as a school lunch manager with ISD #709. Shirley was a member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church.
In childhood and as an adult, Shirley and her family enjoyed their summers at the family cabin on East Bass Lake in Cotton. She maintained close family ties throughout her lifetime. Shirley was a great cook and hosted family picnics for over 40 years at the lake.
Shirley is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Dale; two daughters, Debora Zauhar and Margaret Buyatt; two granddaughters, Christina (Dylan) Zauhar Anderson and Nicole Zauhar; two siblings, Roger (Harriet) Stenberg and James (Mary Ann) Stenberg; several nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents and brother Carl Stenberg, Jr.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Kindred at Home and the St. Mary’s Hospice – Duluth Team for their compassionate care.
Memorials are preferred and will be donated to Charlene’s Light Foundation for Ovarian Cancer and St. Matthews Lutheran Church.
