Lance James Bujold, 65, of Duluth, MN passed away of natural causes on July 28, 2018 at Essentia Health, St. Mary’s Medical Center. He was born in Duluth to James and Janice Bujold December 9, 1952. He was proud to be a lifelong “Park Pointer” as well as a member of the last graduating class from “Old Central” High School. Lance served his country during the Vietnam War as a U.S. Navy Radar Technician in the Western Pacific Ocean aboard the USS Durham AKA-114. Upon returning home he pursued his Masters through the University of Minnesota Duluth, Hamline University and the University of St. Thomas and began work as a Research Analyst for the State of Minnesota. As a student teacher he discovered his passion for teaching and so began his career in 1984 with Duluth Public Schools ISD #709 at Washington Junior High. He also taught in the Silver Bay school district before retiring from Duluth Denfeld in 2012 after 28 years.

He was an accomplished pool and three-cushion billiard player ranking regionally and nationally during many of the years he played. He talked often about the strong area representation in the sport and how many lifelong friendships were forged over “just two bits…and the occasional car title”. Quick to strike up a conversation and a champion of extended good-byes, he inherited a quick wit but never had a bad word to say about anyone and cared deeply for all. He was always researching something for himself or another and was the consummate lifelong learner. Family was very important to him and he showed it in many different ways. Lance will be remembered as a wonderful and compassionate teacher, patriot, son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend.

Lance was preceded in death by mother, Jan Bujold and brother, Tony Bujold. He is survived by father, James (Lee) Bujold; siblings, Kristen and Ted (Kim) Bujold and Michael (Dawn) Park; nieces, Gillian (John), Morghan and Haley; nephews, Jason, Dylan, Aaron, Matthew, Andrew, Taylor, Ryan, Grant and Britton; sister-in-law, Marybeth Bujold; honorary son, Jeffrey Fouts; and dog Joey.

The family would like to thank Pastor Susan Berge, John Safstrom and the staff of Benedictine Health Center, Ecumen/The Fountains, Miller Dwan and Essentia Health for their unwavering care and compassion over the past several months.
