John George Handy, 90, of Duluth died peacefully on Friday February 9, 2018 in Chris Jensen Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Duluth to George and Phyllis Handy on July 15, 1927.

As a child, John spent days on end in Chester Bowl near his home ski jumping. He was a member of the Duluth Ski Club. John was in the Navy during WWII. He graduated from Central High School. John owned and worked at Duluth Ruling and Binding Company until retiring in 2015 at age 88. He married Doris Swenson on July 8, 1950 in Duluth and raised their family in the Kenwood neighborhood. John was a member of First Lutheran Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Louise Gunnarson and an infant brother.

John is survived by son, Donald Handy; daughter, Joyce (Steven) Lent; grandchildren, Bryan (Ashley) Lent and their daughter, Berklee, and Becky Lent (Ty Lounsberry) and their children, Callie and Trent, and several cousins.

The family would like to thank the Chris Jensen staff and St Luke’s Hospice.
