Janice ‘Jan’ Herold, 82, passed away Sunday August 21, 2016 in Duluth. She was born January 13, 1934 to Charles and Lila (Kangas) Buraglio in Duluth.
Jan attended Duluth schools, graduating from Cathedral in 1951. She married Robert ‘ Bob’ Herold April 23, 1955. Jan and Bob made their home in Silver Bay for many years moving to Duluth in 1990.
Jan was a great bowler, following in her fathers footsteps. She won many individual and team tournaments. As a curler she skipped her team to club championships. Janice was never without her camera, even as a kid, capturing friends, family and many years of travel. She preserved all the important events of her life in pictures. Learning to drive at age 50 , while still living in Silver Bay, Jan gained her independence and began ‘commuting’ to Duluth to work at Goldie’s. She worked at the Duluth visitors Bureau for many years.
Jan had a talent for decorating as evidenced in her beautiful homes, of which there were many. She loved decorating for the holidays, her Christmas mantels her specialty. She was a great cook and loved entertaining. Having birthday parties for her husband Bob gave her great pleasure. Jan was an avid reader, loved musicals and jazz. She and Bob spent many years wintering in Florida on Marco Island and in Homestead with sister Jill. Jan was a good and true friend. She loved her family deeply and adored her grandson Scott. Bob will miss his Duchess.
She is preceded in death by; her parents; sister Carleen Erickson.
Janice is survived by; her husband of 61 years, Robert; daughter Lynne (Mark) Dowdall of West Barnstable, MA; grandson Scott Dowdall; sister Jill Buraglio; niece Beth Allen; many extended family members and friends.
