A private interment will take place at a later date in Ohio.
Hazel Bernice Helmeci, age 98, of Duluth, MN, passed peacefully Monday, November 12, 2018 at Spirit Valley Assisted Living. She was born November 25, 1919 in Toledo, Ohio to Walter and Ruth (Thompson) Boatfield.
Hazel moved to Duluth in 1987 and spent the past thirty-one years enjoying the company of her Northland family and friends. When her eyesight was at its best, Mom loved solving crossword puzzles, needlework, and reading.
Hazel is survived by daughters Carol Barber of Genoa, OH; Janice (Christian) Peterson of Duluth; Virginia Simpkins of Toledo, OH; grandchildren Jacinda, Amber, Brandy, Jennifer, Nick, Brian, and Brad; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Thomas and Richard, sisters, Ruth Lorenc and Virginia Boatfield, and son-in-law Donald Barber.
A private interment will take place at a later date in Ohio.
Her family wishes to thank the staff of Spirit Valley Assisted Living for their loving care for the past three years.
