A private graveside burial service will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery, Duluth, MN.
Doris Dorothy Handy, 87, of Duluth died peacefully and unexpectedly on Monday April 3, 2017 at St Luke’s Hospital with family by her side.
Doris was born in Duluth to Fritz and Mabel Swenson on September 3, 1929. She graduated from Central High School in 1947. Doris worked as a young woman at Duluth Ruling and Binding and met John Handy. They were married on July 8, 1950 in Duluth and raised their family in the Kenwood neighborhood. Doris was a member of First Lutheran Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents, and infant sibling, Melbert.
Doris is survived by husband John Handy, son Donald Handy, daughter Joyce (Steven) Lent; grandchildren, Bryan (Ashley) Lent and their daughter, Berklee, and Becky Lent (Ty Lounsberry) and their children, Callie and Trent. Doris is also survived by many cousins.
The family would like to thank all the 911 emergency services personnel and the St Luke’s ER and Hospice for professional response and kindness during this difficult time.
