A Celebration of Life will be held 11:00 am Friday, August 25, 2017, at United Lutheran Church, formerly Bethlehem Lutheran, 701 3rd Ave, Proctor MN. There will be a visitation at 10:00 am, Rev. Rollie Bockbrader officiating, Military honors accorded by Duluth Honor Guard.

David ‘Scoop’ Hughes, 71, of Saginaw passed away peacefully, Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at home. He was born February 28, 1946 to Harry and Nellie (Swanson) Hughes in Proctor.

David served in the US Army as an MP. He attended Hibbing college with the intent of being a teacher; took a summer job at Conwed (USG) and stayed on until he retired. David also served as a firefighter for his community of Saginaw.

David enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being outdoors, and gardening (even running a greenhouse). He was the family historian, and answer man for how to’ s in the kitchen. He enjoyed canning, cooking, baking and is famous for his creme de mint cake. David did wood working, crocheting, knitting, and sewing. He crafted many quilts for family and friends along with personalized cooking aprons. He loved paging through the Harriet Carter magazines looking for the latest and greatest gadgets. Some of his favorite vacation spots included, Mexico, the Boundary Waters, and Leech Lake.

A special ‘Thank You’ to Krystal Kubis, Joy Shupe, Andy Wilson and Amanda Rau, Bill and Annette, and Duane Sveen for their care of David.

He is preceded in death by his parents. David is survived by; his brother Lyman (Marilyn) Hughes; nieces and nephews, Dale, Tammy, Randy; Donna Hughes; extended family and friends.
