Annie Lee Coleman, 41, of Duluth passed away Saturday March 31, 2018 at Solvay Hospice house surrounded by family after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Annie was born January 31st, 1977 in Duluth MN to Bruce and Gretchen Coleman. She was raised in the Pike Lake area with her brother and two sisters, and graduated from Duluth Marshall in 1995. She received Bachelor degrees from the University of Minnesota-Duluth and University of Wisconsin-Superior, and took great pride in her academic achievements. She then received her license as a Certified Public Accountant. Annie worked in various finance and management roles for several companies in the Duluth area, including McGladrey & Pullen, Maurices, St. Luke’s Hospital, and Advanstar Communications.

Annie met Scott Mathias of Duluth, and together they had four children. Annie loved spending time with her family, and devoted much of her time supporting and watching her kids compete in their many activities including equestrian, gymnastics, and hockey. Together, they enjoyed their beach vacations and time together on fun weekends and holidays.

She was an accomplished runner, and loved competing in any event she could find. Annie ran countless marathons, half-marathons, and 5k’s both locally and throughout the country and proudly displayed her vast collection of awards and medals. She drew her strength from running, and in it found peace. Annie continued to run with determination for years after her cancer diagnosis.

Annie’s determination and drive was unmatched, and these qualities allowed her to defy the odds and accomplish almost any goal she set her mind to. Annie’s bright smile, infectious laugh, and fun-loving personality will live on with all who were lucky enough to know her and she will be missed dearly.

She was preceded in death by her Grandfather, Dean Greaton, her Grandparents Russell and Buddie (Greaton) Ryan, and her Grandmother Jane Coleman.

Annie is survived by her four children, Alexis, Lily, Jack, and Tobias; their father, Scott Mathias and their grandparents Robert (Kathy) Mathias and Mary Green; parents Bruce and Gretchen (Greaton) Coleman; brother Bruce (Jill) Coleman, sisters Susan (Ron) Hettich and Chrissy (Brett) Lindberg; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend its sincere thanks and gratitude to the compassionate care givers at Solvay Hospice House in Duluth, MN.
