Florence Ruth Merkel, 96, of Duluth, died Wednesday December 31, 2014. She was born in Marshfield, Wisconsin, December 7, 1918 to Walter and Augusta (Bubolz) Lemke.
Florence married Melvin Merkel in 1938. They moved to Duluth in 1943. She was a longtime member of Lakeside Presbyterian Church and a member of their Esther Ruth Circle. Florence enjoyed cooking, gardening and playing bridge with friends. Her favorite time was at the cabin on Pequaywan Lake where she and Mel spent 60 years together with family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband Melvin; grandson Erik Johnson; two sisters and one brother.
Florence is survived by her daughters; Beverly Taylor of Raleigh, NC, Wendy (Dale) Kreager of Hermantown, grandchildren: Ryan (Kim) Kreager, and Kevin Kreager.
