Ruby A. (Fitzsimmons) Welch “Grandma Ruby”, 80, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family Thursday October 2, 2014. She was born September 13, 1934 to Matthew and Hazel (Roff) Fitzsimmons in Duluth.

Ruby was a lifelong Duluth resident. 61 years ago on June 13, 1953, she united in marriage to David Welch. Together they had seven children, and a lifetime of happy memories. Ruby was primarily a homemaker, but also worked as a laundry attendant, and travelled all 50 states with David working for N. American Van Lines. “Grandma Ruby” was a mother and grandmother to more than her own, fiercely protective of her family, strong-willed, and quick to forgive. Her love and generous spirit will be deeply missed and always remembered.

She is preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter Kelly, daughter Debbie Blix; four siblings, Robert, Hazel ‘Sis’ Ramsey, Bill, Lois Conley; and close family friend Fr. James Hayden.

Ruby is survived by her loving husband David; five children, David, Steve (Clara), Kathy Miller, John (Deb), Scott (Jennifer); 18 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brother David (Rayna) Fitzsimmons; extended family and many, many friends.

Time to greet friends 10:00 am prior to the 11:00 am Memorial Service Tuesday October 7, 2014 at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, Duluth, Fr. Eric Hastings officiating.
